Administrative Requirements for Creating an RBMS Cataloging Manual
(DRAFT IN PROGRESS)
Beginning
- Submit proposal to BSC
- BSC votes to approve
- BSC chair appoints editorial chair and team (in consultation with editorial chair)
- Editorial team creates listserv for themselves and the BSC chair
After a full draft is finished (preface and appendices need not be finished)
Nearer the end
- Request "Description Convention Source Code" from LC Network Development and MARC Standards Office, see http://www.loc.gov/standards/sourcelist/#maintenance for most recent procedures
- Alert PSD of rough deadline for final text so they can get it into their schedule
- Engage indexer, if considered important
- Design cover (see folder of "Publication Documents" on this wiki for source files)
End
- Close reading
- PSD approval
- CC:DA approval (not necessary for remaining AACR2-based manuals)
- BSC approval
- RBMS Executive Committee approval
- Send Word document to CSD for Cataloger's Desktop encoding
- Send PDF document to BSC's web team representative for posting
- Send press release to Library of Congress Communications Office and ACRL Press Center [Note from Erin: I'm not sure how this is done; Helena Zinkham is in touch with the LC Communications Office because her division already has a liaison officer]
