Administrative Requirements for Creating an RBMS Cataloging Manual

(DRAFT IN PROGRESS)

Beginning

  • Submit proposal to BSC
  • BSC votes to approve
  • BSC chair appoints editorial chair and team (in consultation with editorial chair)
  • Editorial team creates listserv for themselves and the BSC chair

After a full draft is finished (preface and appendices need not be finished)

  • Public hearing

Nearer the end

  • Request "Description Convention Source Code" from LC Network Development and MARC Standards Office, see http://www.loc.gov/standards/sourcelist/#maintenance for most recent procedures
  • Alert PSD of rough deadline for final text so they can get it into their schedule
  •  Engage indexer, if considered important
  •  Design cover (see folder of "Publication Documents" on this wiki for source files)

End

  • Close reading
  • PSD approval
  • CC:DA approval (not necessary for remaining AACR2-based manuals)
  • BSC approval
  • RBMS Executive Committee approval
  • Send Word document to CSD for Cataloger's Desktop encoding
  • Send PDF document to BSC's web team representative for posting
  • Send press release to Library of Congress Communications Office and ACRL Press Center [Note from Erin: I'm not sure how this is done; Helena Zinkham is in touch with the LC Communications Office because her division already has a liaison officer]
